A moving meditation
That is how my teacher described a yoga practice in the very first class I ever took. I have studied classical and contemporary dance since early childhood, but I did not begin a steady yoga practice until college. During my first class, my teacher mentioned many times that a yoga practice is a “moving meditation.” As a dancer, I was immediately intrigued by this idea and eager to understand more fully how movement, something I had been doing my entire life, could become a meditative experience.
I signed up for my first 200-hour teacher training a few months later. I remember that the decision to participate in this training felt transformational. It happened quickly and unexpectedly, and I think it was the first time in my life that I decided to say YES to an opportunity I had not previously planned or envisioned for myself. Soon after I finished my training, I started teaching public yoga classes and I feel so lucky to continue teaching and learning today. I have 500+ hours of training in a variety of movement styles as well as two certifications in Applied Positive Psychology and a career as a professional dancer. Now, with more than a decade of experience in the field, I am blending my unique life stories as a professional dancer, yoga and meditation teacher and certified practitioner of positive psychology together to design whole-person centered, well-being experiences. I look forward to sharing classes, workshops, an online membership community, community conversations and retreats with you!
I believe that movement is a powerful tool for deeper connection to yourself and others. I work hard to generate collective positivity and self-empowerment in every class I teach. My classes are playful, challenging and full of love. It is my hope is that through the tools of movement and positive psychology, we can build a community that creates space for all to experience the freedom of a moving meditation practice.
